Wellesley Station opened on March 30, 1954 and serves a densely lived-in stretch of downtown where residential towers, community spaces, and local shops all converge around Yonge Street. Located on the north side of Wellesley Street East just east of Yonge, the station has two levels: a street-level entrance with a small bus platform, and the subway platforms below, connected by elevators for full accessibility. Its single centre platform gives it a more intimate feel than many nearby stations, though it still carries a steady, all-day flow of riders.

Above ground, Wellesley sits at the heart of a vibrant, walkable neighbourhood filled with cafés, restaurants, community institutions, and an ever-growing mix of mid-rise and high-rise residences. The station blends seamlessly into this urban fabric, acting as a daily anchor point for locals, students, and people heading downtown. Despite its compact layout, Wellesley feels deeply connected to the rhythms and character of the community it serves.
