St Patrick Station opened on March 30, 1963 as part of the original University line, serving a stretch of downtown where hospitals, cultural institutions, and university spaces all intersect. Located just west of University Avenue at Dundas Street West, the station is heavily used by students, office workers, and visitors heading to the nearby Art Gallery of Ontario, OCAD University, and the major medical buildings that line the avenue.
Inside, the station follows the practical early-’60s TTC design language, with a single centre platform and a straightforward concourse that handles steady, all-day foot traffic. At street level, the entrances lead directly into a mix of cultural hotspots, institutional buildings, and the lively Dundas Street corridor. With its proximity to art, education, and healthcare, St Patrick stands out as a station that anchors several of Toronto’s most important civic and creative spaces.
Much of the station has an unfinished gritty look. I'm not sure if that is intentional or if the TTC has just never finished this station.
