Opened on January 28, 1978 as part of the Spadina subway extension, Eglinton West Station is a distinctive product of its era—defined by bold geometry, exposed concrete, and the unmistakable glow of burnt-orange tilework. Tucked beneath Allen Road near Eglinton Avenue, the station’s design reflects a utilitarian vision of transit from the late 20th century, where form followed function but left room for architectural character. Long corridors, angular staircases, and hidden skylights give it a raw, almost cinematic feel that invites exploration through the lens.
Beyond its visual appeal, the station plays an important role in Toronto’s evolving transit network. Soon to be renamed Cedarvale with the addition of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, it’s a point of convergence for past and future infrastructure. As the city grows around it, Eglinton West remains both a transit hub and a visual time capsule—offering a unique blend of urban grit, symmetry, and shifting identity that makes it a compelling subject for photography.
