Mall entrance to College station.

College Station opened on March 30, 1954, as part of the original Yonge subway line, and it still carries the atmosphere of that early era. The station runs beneath the busy intersection of Yonge and College, with entrances built directly into the base of office towers and retail spaces. It’s compact and utilitarian, with narrow platforms and tile-lined corridors that echo with the movement of commuters, students, and shoppers flowing between streetcars and subway.

Above ground, the area reflects a constant mix of energy—College Park’s curved façade looms above one corner, while the historic shell of Maple Leaf Gardens anchors another just a block east. To the west, Toronto Metropolitan University pulls in waves of students. That blend of institutional gravity and daily motion defines College Station’s role: not flashy or expansive, but embedded in the churn of downtown life, shaped by mid-century design and hemmed in by a city that’s grown up around it.
