About
TTC Mapper is an ongoing photographic archive of every subway station in Toronto — an effort to document and reflect on the city’s transit infrastructure as lived public space. More than a simple catalogue, the project aims to capture the mood, design, and human rhythm that define each station: the quiet corners, the signage, the light, the crowds, and the calm in-between.
As the project evolves, it will expand beyond subways to include streetcars, ferries, and airport links — tracing how transit shapes urban movement and identity. The goal is to create a visual record of the city’s circulation and transformation over time, inviting viewers to rediscover familiar spaces, notice the overlooked details, and reflect on the role of public transit in everyday life.
Through different times of day, varied framing, and patient observation, TTC Mapper reveals more than architecture — it reveals stories, transitions, and the quiet infrastructure that shapes how Toronto moves.
This project started in January 2024. Line 5 is scheduled to open sometime this year (but could be delayed again). When it does I'll immediately start shooting some stations on there.
If you're not from Toronto, you may wonder where is line 3 of the subway. Line 3 was closed in July 2023 before this project began. Unfortunately this means no photos.
TTC Mapper is inspired by the London based project - Tube Mapper.
